Causes

Types

1. Whiteheads (closed plugged pores)

2. Blackheads (open plugged pores)

3. Small, red, tender bumps (papules)

4. Pimples (pustules), which are papules with pus at their tips.

5. Large, solid, painful lumps under the skin (nodules)

6. Painful pus filled lumps under the skin (cystic lesion)

Acne typically appears on your face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulder because these areas of skin have most oil (sebaceous) glands.

The follicle wall may bulge and produce whiteheads. Or plug may open to the surface and darken causing blackheads.

A blackhead may look like dirt stuck in pores. But actually the pore is congested with bacteria and oil which turns brown when it’s exposed to air.

Pimples are raised red spots with a white center that develops when blocked hair follicles produce cyst like lump beneath skin.

COMPLICATION

People with darker skin types are more likely suffer than are people with lighter skin to these acne complications.

Scar

Pitted skin (ACNE SCAR) and thick scars (keloid) can remain long term after acne has healed.
